Ecommerce Website Cost in Malaysia: What Drives the Price
What an e-commerce website costs in Malaysia in 2026, from starter stores to custom platforms, what moves the price, and the running costs to plan for.
An e-commerce website in Malaysia can cost anything from a few thousand ringgit to well over RM50,000. The spread is wide because “an online store” covers very different projects. Here are the typical market ranges in 2026, what moves a project from one band to the next, and the running costs most quotes leave out.
Typical price ranges in 2026
These ranges reflect what Malaysian agencies commonly publish and quote. Use them to sense-check a quote, not as a fixed price list.
| Type of store | Typical range | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|
| Starter store | RM2,500 – RM6,000 | A theme-based store on Shopify or WooCommerce, a small catalogue, standard checkout |
| Professional SME store | RM8,000 – RM20,000 | Custom design, payment gateway, shipping integration, SEO structure |
| Custom platform | RM30,000 – RM50,000+ | Bespoke features, system integrations, complex catalogues or pricing |
Most growing SMEs land in the middle band: a store designed around the brand, with payments and shipping properly connected.
What drives the price
1. Design. A ready-made theme is the cheapest route. A custom design built around your brand, product photography, and customer journey costs more, and usually converts better.
2. Catalogue size and complexity. Fifty simple products are quick to set up. Thousands of products with variants, bundles, or made-to-order options take far more work.
3. Integrations. Each connection to another system adds cost: local payment gateways, courier services, accounting software, ERP or POS systems, and marketplaces.
4. Features beyond the basics. Loyalty points, tiered promotions, B2B pricing, warranty registration, multiple languages, and multi-currency all add scope.
5. Selling in-store and online. Keeping stock, pricing, and customers in sync across a physical shop and the website is a project in itself. See selling in-store and online without stock mismatches.
6. Content and data migration. Moving products, customers, and order history from an old store takes time — and so does writing product content if none exists.
Running costs to budget for
The build is only part of the cost. Plan for these every year:
- Platform or hosting fees — a subscription on hosted platforms, or hosting for self-hosted stores
- Paid apps or plugins for features the platform doesn’t include
- Domain and SSL
- Maintenance and updates, especially on self-hosted stores
- Payment gateway fees on every transaction
- LHDN e-invoicing, through an e-invoice integration for your platform
How to compare quotes fairly
Two quotes at very different prices often describe different projects. Ask each agency:
- Is the design custom or theme-based?
- Which payment gateways and couriers are included?
- How many products will you load, and who writes the content?
- What is included after launch — support, updates, training?
- What will it cost per year to run, not just to build?
What it costs with O2O
Every store we build is scoped around the business — the catalogue, the channels you sell on, and the systems it needs to connect to — so our pricing depends on the size of the project. The fastest way to get a real number is a short conversation. Tell us what you sell and where, and we will quote around it.
